AIM  AND CONTENTS OF THE COURSE

Aims: The course provides training in emotional intelligence skills relating to relationships among educators and children/young people:

-          rebuilding and reflecting about own experiences of caring to improve self-formative practice as a continuous reflection-in/on-action;

-          listening, analysing, and interpreting own and others’ emotions to managing group and improving the effectiveness of own intervention;

-          coping as an opportunity to learn and grow;

-          becoming more aware about own educational models and caring style.

Contents:

Unit 1- Methodological introduction; learning through experience: care review in films

Methodology: tutor and participants’ presentation, lesson and discussion, experiential activities in small group (using films, plays).

Contents: presentation of the Clinical Formation model; principles of the emotional intelligence; care models.

Unit 2 – Learning through experience: when I was cared for…

Unit 4 and 5– Learning through experience: comparing care models

Methodology: experiential activities in small group (using autobiography, plays).

Contents: role of emotions in the educational contexts; relational ghosts and latent educational models at work in relationships; meaning pursuit and emotional listening in intra-interpersonal dynamics; awareness about the role of care and emotions in our life history like an instrument to help students’ awareness and peers cooperation.

Unit 6 – Follow up

Methodology: discussion and experiential activities.

Contents: evaluation of the processes and self-evaluation.

Dr. Erika Ferrario, Ed. PhD from University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy)

Dr Ferrario is a Lecturer within the Department of Human Sciences (Faculty of Education) at the University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy) and a visiting researcher at the European Centre for Educational Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health at the University of Malta. Her areas of specialisation include emotional intelligence, nonviolent communication, resilience, gender differences, counselling and careers guidance, group dynamics, leadership and conflicts management.

General Information

The course should be of interest to teachers, learning support assistants, parents, psychologists, social workers, counsellors, youth workers, professionals involved in the field of education with children and young people, care workers and the general public.

Since the course is in English a good knowledge of the English language is required.

This is an experiential skills-based course with a high level of participation

The course does not require any quality management experience. Other people who find this course useful are those employees earmarked to undertake Internal Quality Audits, or who will be required to plan, manage and implement internal audit programmes.

Ing Adrian Agius earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Malta in 1988. He was later engaged as Engineering Manager and thereafter as Quality Manager with various manufacturing companies. During this period he acquired IRCA certificate as Quality Lead Auditor based on ISO9000:2000 and ISO/TS16949:2002 from UK. He served as a tutor for various quality related courses and personally attended various courses in leadership skills, team facilitation skills, Top Quality Management, business management skills, public speaking, internal auditing, safety management systems and aviation regulations. Recently, he was certified as Aviation Internal Auditor from IATA and took up posts of Quality Manager in local Aviation enterprises as well as aviation consultant with Aeronautica Malta in collaboration with the Joint Aviation Authorities Training Organisation (JAA TO)
